Ms. Shiers is a member of the Estate Planning Council of New York City, Inc., the New York State Bar Association, the New York City Bar Association, The Florida Bar, the American Bar Association, and the Metro New York Philanthropic Advisors Network. She has also served as a member of the New York City Bar Association's Committee on Non-Profit Organizations, Estate and Gift Taxation Committee and Trusts, Estates & Surrogate’s Courts Committee. She is a member of the New York State Bar Association's Committee on Women in the Law. She has been named a “Super Lawyer” for Estate Planning and Probate work by Law and Politics magazine and was the featured source for an “ask Super Lawyers” article on charitable giving which appeared in the New York Times Magazine. Her representation of America Gives Back, Inc., the organization that helped “American Idol” raise more than $75 million for disadvantaged children, was the subject of an article in the Columbia Law School Magazine. Ms. Shiers has been listed as one of New York City’s top women lawyers in Avenue Magazine and recognized by Best Lawyers for her work in Trusts and Estates.
Ms. Shiers is a graduate of Tufts University (BA, summa cum laude, 1974), Phi Beta Kappa, and Columbia University (JD, 1980), Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. She is admitted to practice in New York and Florida.
Prior to joining Frankfurt Kurnit, Ms. Shiers was a founding partner of Stein Shiers & Goldsmith LLP, a boutique law firm concentrating in tax and estate planning.
