Arnold Asmussen is a partner at Vossius & Partner Patentanwälte Rechtsanwälte mbB in Munich, where he focuses on Intellectual Property Law with an emphasis on patent matters. He began his professional training in intellectual property in 1996 and joined VOSSIUS & PARTNER in 1997. He qualified as a European Patent Attorney in 2003 and became a German Patent Attorney (Patentanwalt) and a European Trademark & Design Attorney in 2005. In 2007, he was admitted to the partnership of the firm.
Arnold Asmussen works with clients on a wide range of technologies, particularly in medical engineering, including cardiovascular medicine, neuromodulation, and endoscopy. His practice also involves automotive engineering, coating and painting technologies, logistics systems, and consumer products. Within these industries, he assists clients with the preparation and prosecution of patent applications as well as matters involving utility models.
His work includes managing patent grant procedures and advising clients in opposition and nullity proceedings. Arnold Asmussen is also involved in utility model cancellation proceedings and related patent infringement matters. Arnold Asmussen represents clients before major intellectual property authorities and courts, including the European Patent Office (EPO), the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA), and the German Federal Patent Court (FPC). His practice also involves representation in patent litigation before German District Courts (LG), Higher Regional Courts (Courts of Appeal), and the Federal Court of Justice (Bundesgerichtshof).
He studied mechanical engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Augsburg, with a focus on precision mechanics and electronics, sensor technology, and opto-electronics. This technical background supports his work with complex engineering and medical device technologies in the field of Intellectual Property Law.
Arnold Asmussen regularly gives lectures on intellectual property topics, including the patentability of medical devices and issues relating to original disclosure and the admissibility of amendments under Article 123(2) EPC.
