Biography
Anthony Makarov joined Gersowitz Libo & Korek as an intern during his second year of law school, and became an associate in 2018 upon graduation. Mr. Makarov handles catastrophic personal Injury and medical malpractice cases. He has worked on all aspects of a case, from the beginning investigation to trial. Additionally, Mr. Makarov has drafted and argued summary judgement motions on complex issues in the State courts of New York.

Recently, Mr. Makarov prepared a case and assisted Senior Partner, Jeff Korek, at trial where a 2.7 million dollar jury verdict was obtained.

Mr. Makarov also recently obtained a $587,000 jury verdict for a 69 year-old woman who suffered broken ribs and clavicle (no surgery) where he was the lead/solo trial attorney.

- Child Victims Act
Anthony Makarov recently presented on the Child Victims Act for the New York City Bar Legal Referral Service staff. The Child Victims Act, recently signed into law on February 14, 2019, extends the date by which victims can bring a civil law suit, eliminates the notice of claim requirement, and creates a one-year window during which child sex abuse victims can bring a claim no matter how long ago the abuse occurred. Mr. Gersowitz and Mr. Makarov explained the features and statutory language of this important Act and discussed the increased rights of child sex abuse victims moving forward.
- New York Legal Assistance Group’s Elder Law Unit
In the New York Legal Assistance Group’s Elder Law Unit, Mr. Makarov prepared advanced directives and supplemental needs trusts for English and Russian speaking clients. During this internship he also participated in the successful elimination of Medicaid spend downs and challenges to the HRA’s reduction of clients’ home-care hours. Mr. Makarov was also a member of Fordham Law’s Criminal Defense Clinic where he sharpened his oral advocacy skills and provided legal assistance to those who could not afford an attorney.
