Annette Gonthier-Kiely has specialized in serious injury and wrongful death cases including medical malpractice, motor vehicle, products liability, construction liability, premises liability, liquor liability and general negligence since she began practicing law in 1981.
Since obtaining a verdict in excess of $1,000,000 in her first solo trial for a teacher who suffered a hip fracture in a fall, and winning the appeal of that verdict, Annette has a consistent record of impressive wins by verdict and settlement. These results include the highest medical malpractice verdict of 2010 which was also the first verdict for “loss of chance of survival” damages under the new law adopted by the Supreme Judicial Court in 2008 in one of her previous wins in a delay of diagnosis of cancer case. Evidence unearthed to support her conviction that the pedestrian handrails, lining the “Big Dig” roadways, were unreasonably dangerous and caused deaths and amputations to motorcyclists and motorists, led to three settlements totaling $15,400,000, including the second highest settlement of 2010, two 2015 settlements, handrail removals and crash testing. Passion, attention to detail, tenacity and trial skill are the earmarks of her firm.
Annette is currently serving her second term as President of the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys. Recognized as a Super Lawyer since 2008, Annette was named a 2016 “Top Women of the Law” by Mass. Lawyers’ Weekly and 2012 “Lawyer of the Year” by the North Shore Women’s Bar Association. She is also past president of the Essex County Bar Association.
