Biography

Anna Collins Peterson has worked on a wide range of litigation matters while at Hecker Fink including representing universities on issues related to Title IX and student discipline, advising clients on sensitive investigations, preparing witnesses for public testimony, and representing clients in complex civil litigation. She served as the lead associate on the firm’s representation of universities in Title IX litigation, mediations, faculty disciplinary proceedings, and a response to an investigation by the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights. Anna has also represented multiple clients in responding to politically sensitive government subpoenas.

Anna maintains an active public interest practice, including representing constitutional law scholars as amicus curiae opposing Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban and representing church-state scholars as amicus curiae advocating adherence to school prayer precedent, both before the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition, she was selected to join the 2024 class of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity’s (LCLD) Pathfinder Program.

She joined the firm after completing clerkships for the Honorable James A. Wynn, Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the Honorable Rebecca Goodgame Ebinger of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa. Anna graduated summa cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Law School, where she received the Bruce Beilfuss Memorial Scholarship and Rath Foundation Scholarship, and was first in her class. She was also selected for the Gwynette Smalley Law Review Prize and Sonnet Schmidt Edmonds Award for Excellence in Energy Law. Prior to law school, Anna worked as the traveling exhibits coordinator for the Wisconsin Veterans Museum, as a corporate trainer at a software company, and interned in the curator’s office of the Supreme Court of the United States. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
