Biography

Andrew Lokan practises in the areas of constitutional law, appellate advocacy, complex commercial litigation, and administrative and labour law. Andrew advocates before all levels of court in Ontario and has appeared in more than 35 cases at the Supreme Court of Canada and over 30 cases at the Ontario Court of Appeal. He has also appeared before courts in several other provinces on constitutional and administrative law cases. He is co-author of Lokan & Dassios, Constitutional Litigation in Canada, and has published widely on public law matters.

Andrew teaches constitutional litigation at Osgoode Hall Law School, and has taught at the University of Ottawa and Monash University in Australia. Andrew obtained his LLB from the University of Ottawa in 1988, LLM from Harvard University in 1989, clerked for former Justice Beverley McLachlin of the SCC in 1989–90, and was called to the Bar in 1991. He is a long-standing member of the Board of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and regularly acts as pro bono counsel for the Association.
