Chair of the Firm’s Employment, Labor, and Benefits Practice, Amy blends a direct and practical approach to HR challenges and conflicts by partnering with business organizations to create sustainable policies that prevent, address, and resolve workplace challenges, including multi-state compliance, hybrid and remote work, and fostering inclusive environments.
Amy represents employers of all sizes in a variety of industries in the following areas of employment law:
Counseling and compliance and defense of claims involving unlawful discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and “wrongful termination” under Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, and ADEA as well as claims pursuant to state, and local law claims;
Workplace misconduct internal investigations;
Navigating the complex intersection of disability law, advising employers about the interactive process and reasonable accommodations for individuals with physical and mental disabilities;
Wage and hour audits;
Noncompete, nonsolicitation, nondisclosure, and severance agreements; and
Misclassification issues and all matters involving people.
Amy actively helps organizations with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) audits and policy development. Her work in this area includes:
Navigating the evolving legal landscape of DEI;
Guidance on developing and implementing lawful DEI strategies, policies, and training programs that align with both business objectives and legal requirements;
Conducting comprehensive DEI audits to identify gaps and areas for improvement;
Advising on best practices for maintaining an inclusive workforce; and
Mitigating risk and creating strategies to ensure compliance with DEI-related legal requirements and industry standards.
As a passionate and seasoned litigator, Amy represents clients charged by the EEOC, in mediation, arbitration, and in state and federal courts. Along with employment defense, she focuses on business torts: tortious interference, injunctive actions, restrictive covenants, breach of fiduciary duty, conversion, partnership disputes, and contract/quasi-contractual disputes.
A dynamic yet relaxed speaker, Amy regularly conducts employee management and anti-harassment trainings for managers and employees and trains supervisors on how to recognize and respond to accommodation requests under the ADA, FMLA, and state and local laws.
Amy serves as the firm’s Employment Counsel, advising the firm about employment compliance issues (including DEI) and creating and implementing the firm’s multi-state employment policies. Passionate about mental health and wellness, she co-created the firm’s Wellness Program to benefit the firm’s partnership and staff.
Amy contributes her legal expertise to the media nationwide on prevalent employment law issues, including The Washington Post, Bloomberg Law, SHRM, Law360, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe, Switch the Future, and Business Insurance.
