Biography
Allan Holmes, based in Charleston, South Carolina, is affiliated with Gibbs & Holmes PC. Since 1988, he has been a South Carolina Supreme Court Certified Specialist in Employment and Labor Law. Allan developed a focus in this area well before its certification. He served on the South Carolina Bar's Employment and Labor Law Specialization Advisory Board from 1997 to 1999 and has chaired the Labor Management & Relations Committee of the Labor and Employment Law Council for several years. As a member of the American Bar Association's Labor and Employment Law Section, he engages actively in professional legal circles. Allan Holmes hails from South Carolina and dedicated the initial six years of his career to civil rights representation for indigent clients. As a Reginald Heber Smith Community Law Fellow, he refined his skills while contributing as a Lecturer at Law at the University of South Carolina School of Law. Moving forward in his career, he assumed roles such as Director of Litigation for a legal services program and first Executive Director of North Carolina Prisoner Legal Services. The American Civil Liberties Union of South Carolina acknowledged his contributions, naming him "Cooperating Attorney of the Year" in 1982.
Starting private practice in Charleston in 1979, Allan co-founded the firm of Halio and Holmes. There, he began focusing on labor and employment law matters. In 1983, he teamed up with Coming B. Gibbs, Jr., forming Gibbs & Holmes, providing significant trial expertise to employment law clients. Over the years, Mr. Holmes has accumulated extensive litigation experience in employment and labor law cases, assisting clients in avoiding future litigation.
