Alex Mitchell is a Partner at Farris LLP in Vancouver, British Columbia, practising labour and employment law. He advises employers on a broad range of workplace and human resources matters in both unionized and non-unionized environments, helping organizations address complex employment issues while supporting operational and business objectives.
Alex represents employers before administrative tribunals and in litigation involving workplace disputes and employment-related claims. His experience includes matters before the BC Labour Relations Board, the Canada Industrial Relations Board, the BC Human Rights Tribunal, the Employment Standards Tribunal, the Workers’ Compensation Appeal Tribunal, the Office of the Information & Privacy Commissioner, and collective agreement grievance arbitrations. He also defends employers in wrongful dismissal actions and other employment litigation.
A significant portion of Alex’s practice involves advising employers and executives on executive compensation and employment matters. He drafts and reviews employment agreements, incentive and bonus plans, retention agreements, severance agreements, independent contractor agreements, and workplace policies. He also advises clients on issues involving departing employees, fiduciary obligations, non-competition and non-solicitation matters, confidentiality obligations, workplace accommodation, disability management, and sickness-related leave issues.
In addition to his labour and employment law practice, Alex works closely with Farris LLP teams on corporate transactions involving workforce and employment considerations, including employment agreements, workplace liabilities, and transition planning.
Alex regularly speaks and writes on labour and employment law topics affecting employers and human resources professionals. He is also a member of the firm’s Private Enterprise Advisory Services team, which provides legal services to mid-market privately owned businesses.
