Alan Rutkin is an attorney with Rivkin Radler LLP in Uniondale, New York whose practice focuses on insurance law and insurance coverage matters. For more than 30 years, he has represented insurance companies in complex coverage disputes and related matters, including claims involving environmental issues, energy projects, policyholder‑owned insurers, and other significant insurance coverage questions. He has been involved in the resolution of more than 100 major claims and also assists with the drafting and development of insurance policies.
Alan regularly speaks and writes on insurance coverage and insurance law topics for professional and industry organizations. He has presented programs for groups such as the American Bar Association (ABA) and the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC). He also served as co-chair of the FDCC’s 2017 Insurance Industry Institute. In addition, Alan has written and lectured on developing insurance coverage issues, including matters involving cyber liability and emerging risks affecting insurers.
In addition to his client work, Alan has been active in professional organizations that focus on insurance law and coverage litigation. He previously served as chair of the American Bar Association’s Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee and has held several other leadership roles within the ABA. He is also a past chair of the Litigation Committee of the American College of Coverage and Extracontractual Counsel and is a member of the American Law Institute.
