Introduction

Matheson Keys & Kordzik PLLC is a business/technology law firm formed in 2007 by three attorneys, each with over 33 years of experience at major Texas law firms, for the purpose of providing sophisticated legal services to entrepreneurial enterprises, project developers, investment entities, and universities. Since then, the firm has grown to four principals and three “Of Counsel” attorneys. Each of the firm’s principals has broad experience in representing a wide array of clients, from large institutional clients--such as multinational industrial and technology companies, universities, financial institutions, venture capital and angel firms, commercial developers, universities, and other state and local governmental agencies-- to startups and emerging growth companies in both domestic and international matters. The firm’s principals, together with its “of counsel” attorneys, provide a group with diverse experience in legal, business, and governmental affairs.

Each of the firm’s principals has had hands-on management level experience in business enterprises and in federal and state governmental entities. That experience provides them with perspectives on the challenges executives face in running and growing their businesses that are not typical among attorneys serving clients similar to those served by Matheson Keys & Kordzik. This perspective enables them to provide strategic as well as tactical advice on business-oriented legal issues.

The firm is particularly experienced in providing strategic Board-level legal counseling to startups, emerging, rapid-growth, and middle market companies in a wide range of businesses, including technology and other knowledge-based enterprises. The firm is widely recognized for its understanding of the interplay of technology and intellectual property with business and government and for its attorneys’ ability to assist clients in cost effectively commercializing and monetizing their intellectual property assets.

The firm’s attorneys also have experience in advising industrial companies and project developers in the development and financing of large industrial and infrastructure projects, including renewable energy projects, fossil-fuel based independent electric power facilities, transportation projects, and public-private partnerships.

Despite being only ten years old, the firm has already represented more than 200 clients in transactions that range in size from start-up funding of a few hundred thousand dollars to over several hundred million dollars. Because of the experience of its lawyers, the firm is adept at handling this wide-range of transactions with excellence and skill that transcend its modest numbers.

The firm attorneys also have the experience and expertise to help its clients resolve disputes in the event they occur, whether through mediation, arbitration or litigation. The firm’s lead litigation attorney, with 40 plus years of experience as a trial attorney, has substantial experience in business and intellectual property litigation.
