Jack Swerling was a member of the Supreme Court of South Carolina's Board of Law Examiners and a member of the Supreme Court's Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline. He is currently a member of the Chief Justice’s Commission on the Profession. He has been on the Faculty of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Department of Neuropsychiatry for more than 20 years, and formerly served on the Faculty of the University of South Carolina School of Law for a number of years.

Mr. Swerling is the author of The South Carolina Criminal Trial Notebook; My Little Rules Book - Criminal; and a contributor to the South Carolina Criminal Trial Techniques Handbook, (which was authored by the Honorable Ralph King Anderson), as well as a number of articles in the South Carolina Law Review and various magazines.

He is a Life Fellow of the South Carolina Bar Foundation and served as President from 1997-1998. Mr. Swerling is a Master Bencher in the John Belton O'Neill Inn of Court and a member of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference. He is a Fellow in the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, the American College of Trial Lawyers, the American Board of Criminal Lawyers, the Litigation Counsel of America and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He is listed in the Martindale – Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers, The Best Lawyers in America and the South Carolina Super Lawyer magazine.
