Family Law – Consistently recognized by its peers as a leader in family law, the firm’s family law group handles some of the most complex and sensitive proceedings on behalf of individuals living in Washington D.C., suburban Maryland, and Northern Virginia. In addition to using traditional legal tools to get results for our clients, our family practice emphasizes collaborative law as an alternative to litigation, recognizing the emotional toll that divorce and custody proceedings can have on individuals, particularly children.

Federal Grants – Our attorneys have provided counsel and advice to federal grant recipients for over 30 years, aiding recipients in all manner of grant law matters, including but not limited to: operationalizing the federal grant requirements, drafting and implementing policies and procedures, structuring subaward relationships, navigating complex cost allocation matters, managing federal interest claims, and, of course, litigating and otherwise resolving disallowances and other enforcement actions.

With the promulgation of the Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (“Uniform Guidance”) FTLF has assisted its clients and others with a comprehensive training program designed to (i) reinforce and enhance grantee skills related to long existing requirements, and (ii) update those skills to adapt to changes.

Health Law – Owing to our representation of health care providers, our Health Law practice has emerged with expertise in public sector health insurance programs (such as Medicare and Medicaid) as well as the federal laws and regulations applicable to organizations that provide health care services, with a particular focus on Federally Qualified Health Centers (see Federally Qualified Health Centers). Today, FTLF provides a full range of legal services (transactional, regulatory, and litigation) to a diverse cross-section of health care providers, provider networks, and health plans. Our Health Law practice also provides guidance to health care providers, provider networks, and health plans regarding the implementation of effective corporate compliance programs (see Health Care Corporate Compliance).

Government Audits and Investigations – We know that sometimes even the most compliant programs out there are hit with government audits and investigations. Throughout the firm’s history, we have remained true to our public service origins. While we still represent numerous community health centers, community action agencies and Head Start programs, our attorneys remain actively involved in public service, serving as leaders in numerous capacities at a local and national level.
