Firm Details

Background: Eugene Thuraisingam LLP (“ETLLP”) is a premier dispute resolution practice specialising in disputes and investigations. Our team of counsel comprises Eugene Thuraisingam, Suang Wijaya, Chooi Jing Yen, Rachel Wong, Johannes Hadi, Hamza Malik, Genghis Koh, and Joel Wong. ETLLP is the choice firm for any client seeking an experienced, committed and conflict-free team of counsel to conduct high-stakes disputes. As trial lawyers, ETLLP brings unique skills to the table, particularly in commercial disputes involving head-on clashes of factual or expert evidence. ETLLP is fearless in pursuing novel arguments and has persuaded the Singapore courts to find for our clients in uncharted areas of litigation, arbitration and criminal law.

Services: In the field of Criminal Litigation, ETLLP has:- (a) obtained landmark judgments, including the Court of Appeal’s decision (for the first time in Singapore’s legal history) to review its own concluded decision convicting an accused person, and eventually reversing its own decision in September 2020: see Ilechukwu Uchechukwu Chukwudi v Public Prosecutor [2020] SGCA 90; (b) secured acquittals in trial, including successfully persuading the Court of Appeal to acquit a medical practitioner who was accused of rape and outrage of modesty by his patient: see Public Prosecutor v Wee Teong Boo [2020] SGCA 56; and (c) successfully persuading the Prosecution to amicably resolve numerous matters through carefully crafted representations. At the highest Court levels, ETLLP has pursued novel lines of argument and persuaded the Courts to find in favour of their clients in uncharted areas of the law: see for example Rameshs/o Krishnan v AXA Life Insurance Singapore Pte Ltd [2017] SGHC 197.

Arbitration is a core practice area for the firm. We are regularly instructed to act in high-stakes, high-value, complex, and multi-jurisdictional disputes. ETLLP is adept and well-versed at handling both domestic and international arbitrations and is familiar with the major international arbitral institutions. Our proven track record, both in and out of Court, is evidence of our deep knowledge of commercial realities and our familiarity with the business environment in which our clients operate. ETLLP handles the full spectrum of international arbitration across a wide range of industries including shipping, oil and gas, banking and financial services and insurance.

Our robust Commercial Litigation practice offers quality professional legal services representing clients across a broad spectrum of cross-border and domestic commercial disputes. Our proven track record enables us to provide our clients with viable commercial solutions. Our expertise covers the full range of litigation work including employment, regulatory investigations, professional negligence and banking and finance sectors. We are also regularly instructed on white-collar crime and professional disciplinary proceedings involving doctors, lawyers and accountants.

We can act independently or alongside our regional affiliates, especially where the dispute is complex and multi-jurisdictional. We are also able to coordinate a strong global strategy where the dispute engages multiple stakeholders with varying interests from different jurisdictions. We are well-placed to advice on multi-jurisdictional disputes due to our extensive network regionally and internationally.
