Daniel M. Blau, Raleigh Criminal Appeals and Criminal Defense LawyerDan Blau is a constitutional advocate and criminal appeals lawyer.
He has skillfully argued matters on behalf of his clients before North Carolina’s state and federal appellate. His record of success in securing reversals and remands of trial court decisions in felony matters is well proved. An experienced and hard-working criminal defense lawyer, Dan has represented more than a thousand clients facing felony and misdemeanor charges, and through DWI and other traffic matters in North Carolina state courts.
In further advocacy for criminal defendants in the state, since 2005 Dan is a member of the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina where he has served in many capacities including Vice-President of the Board of Directors. He is a career-long member of the North Carolina Bar Association and its Constitutional Rights and Responsibilities Section, where he has served in many capacities, including on the Council and as Council Chair. Determined to defend our most basic rights from the outset, Dan began his career in clerskhip to The Honorable Linda M. McGee, Chief Judge of the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
Dan was born in Raleigh and raised in Chapel Hill, where he attended University of North Carolina School of Law. There he served as Executive Editor of the First Amendment Law Review, worked as a legislative clerk for the ACLU of North Carolina, and completed an internship at the North Carolina School of Government. He graduated with honors in 2007. Dan holds an undergraduate in Public Policy Studies from Duke University, with a minor in political science and a certificate in health policy. He has written and presented extensively on issues of legal ethics for defense lawyers.
Dan is admitted to practice in all North Carolina state courts, the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of North Carolina, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
