Recognized in The Best Lawyers in America® since 2017, Garrett is currently being honored as "Lawyer of the Year" for Family Law Arbitration in Dallas/Fort Worth for 2023.

Of her legal career and award, Garrett stated: "Being named the ‘Lawyer of the Year’ by Best Lawyers is a huge honor because this award is based on peer ratings. One of my goals in this career is to maintain professional relationships and collegiality with my colleagues—coworkers, opposing counsel, co-counsels and the judiciary. As such, it has been an honor to serve in multiple board positions in my legal community and continue the working relationships which contribute to my ability to work effectively with opposing counsel. I exclusively practice family law, and the most rewarding part of the practice area is the privilege of helping families navigate difficult situations. As a family law attorney, I have the opportunity to help our clients to achieve outcomes that improve their lives and the lives of their families. The work that we do as family lawyers has a lasting impact for generations."

As a family law attorney, Garrett regularly collaborates with professionals outside the legal field, such as social workers, therapists and financial experts. "Family lawyers have to be aware of the client's estate, which involves every business interest that the estate holds, as well as the emotional dynamics of the family. I truly enjoy collaborating with and learning from other professionals while we work together for our client's goals.

"A great family law attorney must be responsive, compassionate, knowledgeable and communicative. I have a reputation for being client-focused and having realistic expectations, but I try not to take unreasonable positions and do not let my ego drive any lawsuit. I believe that by maintaining good relationships with opposing counsel that I can focus on the best outcome for my client without becoming distracted by personality conflicts with opposing counsel. I always bear in mind that it is about the client and their welfare; it's not about me."

Outside her work in the courtroom, in 2022, Garrett was admitted as a fellow into the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), a nonprofit organization comprised of family lawyers dedicated to the continued education, networking and training of those working within the practice area. "It's been a goal of mine for years, and it is an honor to have my name included in a directory with some of the nation's most acclaimed family law attorneys. The AAML is a very exclusive organization that requires recommendations from my peers, as well as the judiciary, and the admission criteria is extremely stringent."
