Scarlett Law Group Recovers More Than $100 Million by Taking Fewer Cases

The San Francisco plaintiffs’ firm pairs a selective docket with trial-ready preparation in catastrophic injury cases

Nearly four decades in, Scarlett Law Group remains one of Northern California’s most formidable plaintiffs’ trial firms—and 2026 was no exception, as the firm secured multiple high-value recoveries for catastrophically injured clients and their families. Scarlett Law Group takes cases that both improve public safety and secure the resources families need to rebuild, and it does so by choice, not volume: in 2025 and 2026 alone, the firm recovered more than $100 million on behalf of its clients—the product of a deliberately selective docket, with each result reflecting the unique facts of that client’s case.

  • Catastrophic injury clients and families can see how focused case selection and trial preparation shaped more than $100 million in recoveries in 2025 and 2026.
  • A $26 million policy-limits settlement helped secure lifelong care for a child left quadriplegic after a sports-related fall on private property.
  • The firm handles serious claims involving truck crashes, unsafe property and roads and medical negligence.

For founder Randall H. Scarlett, the firm’s most important work often begins after a case resolves—when clients and their families can finally begin rebuilding lives upended by profound trauma.

“We take high-stakes cases because we go above and beyond to prepare every one of them for trial,” said Scarlett, recognized by Best Lawyers in America® every year since 2009 for Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs in San Francisco. “Even the best-funded defendants—state agencies and national transportation companies among them—know how far we will go to secure justice for our clients.”

A founding member and former vice-president of the Brain Injury Association of California, Scarlett is regarded as one of the nation’s foremost authorities on traumatic brain injury (TBI). He is also a former president of the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys and a Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer.

Randall H. Scarlett is joined by his son and partner, Randall A. Scarlett, and together they lead the firm’s litigation on behalf of individuals and families harmed by preventable catastrophic and fatal injuries. Their cases—against insurers, trucking companies, and other well-resourced defendants—routinely produce seven- and eight-figure verdicts and settlements arising from truck collisions, hazardous premises and roadways, and medical negligence.

This past year, Randall A. Scarlett secured a $26 million pretrial settlement—the defendant’s full policy limits—for a child left permanently quadriplegic by a sports-related fall on negligently maintained private property, ending a promising athletic career.

“Our client’s family was facing perhaps four years of protracted litigation,” he said, “but because we were prepared for trial, the defense took us seriously. That allowed us to secure the means to care for a child who now has to learn an entirely different life.”

Landmark verdicts from the firm’s history include:

● $49.1 Million — Single-plaintiff verdict for a 23-year-old man who sustained a severe TBI in a multi-truck collision that also implicated the State of California for a dangerous condition on Highway 152. It remains among the largest verdicts ever returned by a Santa Clara County jury. (Bianchi v. Gordon Trucking, et al., 2009)

● $22.8 Million — Single-plaintiff verdict after a bus made an illegal turn and struck a pedestrian, causing a severe TBI. (Shi v. Coach USA, 2007)

● $18.6 Million — Verdict for the family of a decedent rear-ended by a big rig on State Route 156, against the trucking company and driver as well as the State of California for a dangerous condition. (Almanza v. State of California, et al., 2015)

“We are proud to be considered leaders in this area, because it reflects a real understanding of how safety standards, healthcare, and the law intersect,” said Randall A. Scarlett, named to the Best Lawyers Ones to Watch list in 2026 for Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs in San Francisco.

The firm’s structure is deliberate. “We are not a high-volume firm, and that is intentional,” said Randall H. Scarlett. “We want every client to know they will be represented by the professionals they see on our website. It is a privilege to stand up for them. Every case we accept is a chance to change the systems that allowed the harm in the first place.”
