Few personal injury law firms have had the level of impact achieved by Morelli Law Firm. Through a multitude of legal victories, the firm has profoundly improved the lives of thousands, helping victims of negligence secure the means to rebuild their lives and pursue more promising futures.

“Even when faced with daunting challenges, we have remained resolute in our mission to effect positive change for victims of negligence and their families, and I’m deeply gratified by our ability to change lives,” says founding partner Benedict Morelli, who has been selected as one of New York’s “Superstars” by the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and recognized in The Best Lawyers in America® since 1997. “We regularly go up against some of the largest and most powerful companies and law firms in the world and win.

This steadfast commitment to justice is reflected in testimonials from past clients, who can attest to the firm’s life-changing impact. For example, the firm represented numerous victims who were seriously injured in the May 12, 2015, Amtrak train derailment outside of Philadelphia. Morelli Law Firm played an instrumental role as a court-appointed member of the Plaintiff’s Management Committee in settling the case for $265 million—the largest passenger railroad accident settlement in U.S. history.

“From the moment Ben Morelli appeared, I was confident we’d made the right decision,” notes a client of the firm who was severely injured in the derailment. “He was straightforward, empathetic and, above all, a no-nonsense communicator.

Another client who survived the derailment describes Morelli and partner David Sirotkin as “Two of the hardest working attorneys in New York who care and will take care of your case.”

Morelli Law Firm’s well-established track record of obtaining justice for its clients spans a diverse range of cases, including personal injury, truck and auto accidents, sexual harassment/employment discrimination, mass torts and medical malpractice, among others. Since its founding, the firm has secured billions of dollars in results for its clients, and Best Law Firms® has recognized the firm as Tier 1 in Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs and Mass Tort Litigation / Class Actions - Plaintiffs in New York City for 2024.

“The cases we handle are complex and challenging, but this firm was founded to represent people in need of a voice, and we are always working to deliver on that original mission,” says Sirotkin, who was named as a Top 40 Under 40 Civil Plaintiff Trial Lawyer by The National Trial Lawyers and named by Best Lawyers to its inaugural “Ones to Watch” list. “Working hard is always worth it when you believe in what you’re doing and you know that you’re making a difference.”

Morelli Law Firm has been involved in a number of noteworthy cases over the past decade. For example, the firm secured a landmark settlement with Walmart on behalf of comedian Tracy Morgan and five other plaintiffs who were injured in an accident involving one of the company's trucks. The firm has remained a national leader in this area of the law. Recently, the firm tried trucking accident cases in Southern Illinois against FedEx and in Baltimore, Maryland, against Frito-Lay, with both cases resulting in confidential settlements during trial.

Other prominent results include a $102 million verdict for a 30-year-old Suffolk County man who sustained severe brain injuries after a forklift accident at Live Nation’s Jones Beach Theater. After the verdict was appealed, the firm set a new precedent for the highest sustained pain and suffering award for a traumatic brain injury case in New York State. Morelli Law Firm also successfully represented a Fox News staffer in a high-profile sexual harassment claim against a network host, achieved a favorable jury verdict and subsequent settlement in a significant slip-and-fall case involving Canadian tennis star Eugenie Bouchard and the United States Tennis Association, and settled a case against MGM National Harbor resort on behalf of a 6-year-old girl who was electrocuted by a resort handrail.

“Many of our clients are severely injured and require care for the rest of their lives,” observes partner Alexander Morelli, a Top 40 Under 40 Civil Plaintiff Trial Lawyer by The National Trial Lawyers. “We are committed to ensuring they are vigorously represented by our firm and fully compensated for their losses; that’s how we make a real impact in the lives of our clients.”

Currently, Morelli Law Firm is representing the estate of a well-known New York City architect who was killed after being struck by a falling piece of building façade and a 24-year-old woman who suffered severe brain injuries after being struck by patio furniture that fell off a Manhattan penthouse. Earlier this year, the firm was retained to represent the estate of a longtime garage worker who was killed in a downtown Manhattan garage collapse. The firm continues to represent more than a thousand women in litigation against Johnson & Johnson alleging that the company’s use of the company’s talcum powder caused their ovarian cancer.

New York might be a progressive state in many respects, but its wrongful death law is itself a regressive tragedy—essentially the same statute first passed in the mid-1800s—that prolongs and deepens grieving families’ suffering. This must change.
