For over 40 years, David H. Perecman has served New York City as one of its top personal injury lawyers, winning settlements for his clients totaling hundreds of millions of dollars and counting. In 1983, Perecman established his own firm, The Perecman Firm, P.L.L.C., after his landmark $600,000 verdict against the once popular department store Gimbels. Since then, Perecman has gone on to represent his clients in all areas of personal injury litigation such as construction accidents, premises accidents, automobile accidents and medical malpractice as well as employment discrimination, false arrests and civil rights cases. Perecman has been listed with Best Lawyers since 2008 and is currently being recognized as a 2022 “Lawyer of the Year” in Long Island for Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs.

“I don’t believe that it is one case that led me to receive the highest ratings from my peers and winning the ‘Lawyer of the Year,’ but rather a multitude of great trial results, appellate results and settlements. For years, I have dedicated my practice to serving clients who have suffered serious, life-altering injuries and helping them to secure compensation for those injuries,” Perecman acknowledges, explaining that his dedication to his clients and passion for the law are his biggest career motivators.

Perecman understands that though courtroom success cannot heal the injured, it can greatly improve the quality of life for those who have been hurt. He states, “The most rewarding aspect of personal injury law is being able to help people who have suffered serious, often debilitating injuries and their families to live their lives in the most comfortable way possible by obtaining the compensation they need and deserve. The day you hand your client their check and they thank you, often with a big hug, is always a highly emotional and rewarding experience for me.”

Perecman credits his success as a personal injury lawyer to both perseverance and patience, valued traits in a practice area where it could take years to become a reputable resource.

“Perseverance pays off and as a personal injury attorney, it often takes years of time and resources to your practice to establish a reputation within the industry. Building a reputation as a skillful and successful trial attorney comes from delivering high-quality legal services to your clients consistently over time.”

As for his work and how he gained his legal success, he says, “there are no shortcuts—and, in personal injury law, no such thing as luck. Those who are successful in the industry make their own luck. Something I put into practice during my first few years as an attorney is to take a step back, consider the issue at hand and then address it to the best of your ability using the resources you have at your disposal. It’s always important to keep moving forward.”
