EASTON & EASTON continued a 30-plus-year tradition of excellence in all areas of personal injury trial law as California courts safely reopened in 2022. The firm is led by 50-year veteran trial lawyer Douglas Easton and his sons and partners, Brian, Matt and Travis. The Eastons further solidified their reputation for leadership in and out of the courtroom this year—from representing clients in high-stakes legal matters to forging partnerships with major league sports teams in an effort to create safer communities.

The firm’s lawyers have made an undeniable impact in Southern California, having secured more than $100 million in the past five years for victims who have suffered injuries or tragedies due to defective products, construction accidents, medical malpractice, premises liability and trucking and motor vehicle accidents.

“We are nearing resolutions in two challenging premises liability cases that were delayed due to the pandemic,” says Co-Managing Partner Brian Easton. One of the cases was rejected by several major law firms in Los Angeles due to the difficult and complex nature of the liability case. “So many other law firms passed on the case due to the difficulty level, and our poor client almost gave up. Fortunately, when she came to us, we knew the defendants had cut corners and trusted in our ability to find the evidence to prove it during the litigation.” After more than five years of investigating and litigating the matter, the Eastons uncovered the truth, leading to a $7 million settlement for their client several weeks ago.

In another equally complex and challenging premises liability case involving numerous disputes over liability, employment status and insurance coverages, the Eastons expect to acquire more than $25 million in the coming weeks for a client suffering from severe CRPS due to a construction site accident. “Here, the defense tried to get crafty and defeat our case by making certain claims about our client’s employment status at the time of the incident,” says Founding Partner Doug Easton. Ultimately, the Eastons used the defendant’s own arguments against them to establish strict liability. “The defendants were so blinded by their greed and deceitful efforts to evade liability that they never realized we were actually helping them build their own gallows along the way.”

The firm established an even stronger presence in the Orange County community outside the courtroom through two key strategic partnerships announced earlier this year.

The Angels MLB team announced that Easton & Easton—whose partners are lifelong Angels fans—would be its new law firm partner and be featured on extensive branding on the in-stadium 360 LED marquees during games throughout the season.

The prestige moved from the diamond to the ice rink when the Anaheim Ducks named Easton & Easton the “Official Personal Injury Attorneys of the Anaheim Ducks.” This announcement allowed the firm to further its mission of creating safer communities. Co-Managing Partner Matt Easton noted that the firm would be the presenting partner for a joint community toy drive with the Ducks this holiday season, as well as for the “Designated Duck Driver Program,” which rewards fans that agree to be a designated driver at Ducks home games.

“As much as we love going to court to help our injured clients, we’d prefer they weren’t injured in the first place. Anything we can do to help promote safer roadways is a priority for us,” Co-Managing Partner Matt Easton says. “Often, we have insisted on improvements to dangerous roadways and properties as part of our case settlements in order to ensure that no one else would be injured like our client at those locations in the future. These partnerships with the Ducks and Angels allow us to further those efforts in the community by educating our neighbors about important issues like adequate underinsured motorist coverage and helping to encourage safe driving with designated drivers. We are confident these partnerships can help save even more lives in the community and hopefully prevent some accidents that we would have otherwise been asked to help make right after the fact.”

Given the firm’s pedigree for success and strong community ties, it’s not surprising they were recently selected by the Orange County Register’s Reader’s Choice Poll as Orange County’s “Best Law Firm” for 2022. “It’s a great honor that the people in the OC community recognized us in this way,” said Partner Travis Easton. “It confirms for us that all our efforts inside and outside the courtroom to make the community safer are making a difference.”
