Best Lawyers has been recognizing the top legal talent in Spain since 2008. This November, we published the 13th Edition of The Best Lawyers in Spain, which recognized 3,873 lawyers, or roughly 2.5 percent of practicing lawyers in Spain, for their professional excellence across 28 locations and 78 practice areas. Additionally, these lawyers come from 725 firms across Spain.

Our Research Process

The research process for the 2021 Edition of The Best Lawyers in Spain began in June 2020 when lawyers, marketing contacts, and various media outlets in Spain were invited to nominate top legal talent in private practice. These individuals were encouraged to nominate deserving lawyers for Best Lawyers consideration. Nominations were accepted until 31 July 2020. A nomination does not mean that a lawyer is recognized by Best Lawyers but instead reserves that individual’s placement on ballots for voting.

Who Votes?

3,654 lawyers were eligible to vote for the 2021 Edition. Only lawyers who have been previously awarded are invited to vote. Our peer-review methodology is designed to capture, as accurately as possible, the consensus opinion of leading lawyers about the professional abilities of their colleagues within the same geographical region and legal practice area.

Voter feedback is analyzed using an established algorithm developed by our Research and Software Development teams. At the end of this year’s voting period, we received more than 100,000 votes. We also consider historical votes when analyzing the data, thus in total, more than 500,000 votes were reviewed this year to determine the Best Lawyers awards in Spain.

Analysis & Results

Once the votes are analyzed and awards are finalized, lawyers were made aware of their recognitions. A lawyer cannot pay to be recognized by Best Lawyers and does not have to pay anything to promote their recognition or say that they have been included in the Best Lawyers publication. Marketing tools to further promote a lawyer’s recognition such as logos and commemorative items are available to purchase but purchasing these items has absolutely no impact on a lawyer’s inclusion.

We congratulate the lawyers recognized in this year’s edition of top legal talent in Spain as recognized by your peers. As we have done so since the founding of Best Lawyers almost 40 years ago, we stand by our belief that the best lawyers know who the best lawyers are.

If you have any questions about our process or specific information regarding your firm, we are happy to discuss! Please contact us at global@bestlawyers.com to speak to a member of our Research Department.
