The Art of Advocacy: Adam S. Hall’s Enduring Influence on Complex Litigation

After securing precedent-setting victories in international terrorism litigation, renowned trial lawyer Adam S. Hall is expanding the complex commercial litigation and professional malpractice practice that has anchored his career for more than three decades.

When Adam S. Hall launched The Hall Law Firm in Miami in 2020, he brought with him three decades of complex litigation experience and a professional legacy shaped alongside his late father, trial trailblazer Andrew C. Hall, at Hall, Lamb, Hall & Leto.

“Standing up for what’s right was instilled in me as a family value,” said Hall, who has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® since 2021 in Commercial Litigation and Arbitration. His passion for litigating bet-the-company disputes in state and federal courts, representing closely held businesses, major corporate clients and professional entities, was also driven by a desire to provide stronger advocacy within Florida’s commercial litigation landscape.

“Commercial litigation and professional malpractice have always been the foundation of my practice,” Hall said. “With The Hall Law Firm, I can give these complex litigation matters the primary focus they deserve while continuing select terrorism matters.”

Summary prepared by
  • Miami trial lawyer Adam S. Hall launched The Hall Law Firm in 2020, sharpening its focus on commercial litigation, arbitration and professional malpractice for businesses facing high-stakes disputes.
  • Hall explains why malpractice cases often become a “case within a case,” requiring deep analysis of failed transactions, litigation strategy and business fallout.
  • His work on U.S.S. Cole terrorism litigation led to a $70 million settlement with Sudan and a $2 billion judgment against Iran.
  • For business owners and corporate leaders, the article shows how focused litigation counsel can protect companies, reputations and long-term financial interests.

Reaffirming a Core Focus and Strengthening the Profession

With The Hall Law Firm’s founding, Hall continued the terrorism claims that gained him international accolades while also expanding the professional malpractice and commercial litigation work that had shaped the early arc of his career.

Unlike the terrorism claims, Hall noted, these multimillion-dollar matters are largely out of the public eye but remain critically important because livelihoods are at stake.

“We live in a litigious society, and when a transaction or court case doesn’t yield the result that a client hopes for or expects, they naturally want to determine whether an error or negligence occurred,” said Hall, who also serves as a trustee for the Law Center Association at the University of Florida Levin College of Law. “Professional malpractice is unique because it often requires trying a ‘case within a case’ arising out of prior or related litigation, a transaction gone wrong or ethical gray areas. It can stem from a merger, acquisition, dissolution, business divorce or can arise out of any type of litigation.”

That layered complexity of litigating malpractice claims has defined Hall’s approach as much as the highly watched terrorism matters. It demands trial skill, knowledge of the underlying practice area involved and “an ability to unpack the decisions another lawyer made under pressure.”

Setting Global Precedent

In addition to his career history in commercial litigation, Hall gained international recognition for his work on high-profile terrorism cases, which produced precedent-setting results.

Hall worked alongside his father for more than a decade on behalf of several dozen U.S. Navy sailors and their families who were victims of al-Qaida’s October 2000 bombing of the U.S.S. Cole in the Gulf of Yemen. Following Andrew Hall’s passing in 2019, Hall and Texas co-counsel Nelson M. Jones, III obtained a widely reported $70 million settlement from the Republic of Sudan in 2020. Four years later, in another lawsuit, a landmark $2 billion default judgment was entered against Iran for its role in aiding and abetting the al-Qaida operatives who carried out the same attack.

For that result in Gunn v. Iran, Hall was named 2025 Florida Attorney of the Year by the Daily Business Review and Law.com. Additionally, The Hall Law Firm and its co-counsel — The Carlson Law Firm, Nelson M. Jones[AH1] , III and Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher — won two Elite Trial Lawyers Awards from the National Law Journal for Trial Strategy Innovation and Catastrophic Injury.

“These were decades-long efforts spearheaded by some of the most dedicated lawyers I’ve had the pleasure of knowing,” Hall said. “Everyone involved is proud of what we achieved for the victims of al-Qaida’s terrorist bombing of the U.S.S. Cole and the broader legal precedent those cases established.”

While the terrorism litigation brought international acclaim, Hall is consistently gratified by his daily work: helping companies, innovators and business owners protect what they have built when the stakes are highest.

“I was trained to represent people who have suffered injustice and physical, economic or business victimization,” he said. “We are humbled that so many of our cases are referred by our peers, and it is an honor to help clients rebuild their professional and personal lives and move forward.”
