Best Lawyers® returns to Chile, Colombia and Puerto Rico with the release of its 2027 editions, continuing a long-standing tradition of recognizing legal excellence across these markets. Following the 2026 awards, Chile and Colombia enter their 17th editions, while Puerto Rico marks its 14th.
Together, these editions offer a closer look at the legal professionals and firms represented across three distinct markets. The results also provide an opportunity to examine the scope of recognition in each jurisdiction and the research supporting the awards.

How Peer Review Shapes Best Lawyers Recognition
Best Lawyers follows its Purely Peer Review® methodology, which relies on the professional judgment of lawyers to assess the abilities of their peers. This approach allows legal professionals to evaluate colleagues practicing within the same geographic regions and areas of law.
The process begins with nominations from lawyers, clients, paralegals and others familiar with a nominee's work. Currently recognized lawyers then confidentially evaluate the nominees. Best Lawyers independently verifies eligibility and professional standing before making the final selections. Peer feedback determines recognition, and lawyers cannot purchase this distinction. Among those recognized, one lawyer in each practice area and metropolitan region earns the “Lawyer of the Year” distinction based on the highest overall peer feedback.
For the 2027 editions, research in Chile, Colombia and Puerto Rico draws on both current and historical evaluations, providing a comprehensive record of peer feedback across all three markets through the Best Lawyers research process.
Exploring the 2027 Results of The Best Lawyers in Chile™
In Chile, 1,401 lawyers are recognized across 411 firms and 57 practice areas in Santiago, representing approximately 6% of the country's legal profession. The edition also includes 41 recipients of the “Lawyer of the Year” distinction.
Research participation reached 47.12%, with approximately 70,000 evaluations submitted during the 2027 research cycle. These contributions add to a cumulative database of approximately 479,000 historical evaluations, providing a substantial body of peer feedback for the results.
