The Best Lawyers in Germany Awards

For the milestone 15th edition, Best Lawyers is honored to present The Best Lawyers in Germany™ awards for 2024. These awards include individual lawyer awards for The Best Lawyers in Germany, Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in Germany™, “Lawyer of the Year” awards and the prestigious firm-wide “Law Firm of the Year” awards.

Best Lawyers has spent more than four decades honoring the legal talent of the world’s most esteemed lawyers, determining awards through our original Purely Peer Review™ process. Through nominations, voter outreach and peer feedback, Best Lawyers continue to bring representation across the globe and to Germany. We believe that the best lawyers truly know who the best lawyers are, and our methodology works to showcase that each and every year.

For 2024, The Best Lawyers in Germany recognizes an impressive 6,144 lawyers across 86 practice areas. Recognitions are highlighted among 15 metropolitan areas in Germany, with the most recognized lawyers practicing in Nordrhein-Westfalen.

Among the 86 recognized practice areas, the ten with the most Best Lawyers honorees in Germany are Corporate Law, Mergers and Acquisitions Law, Intellectual Property Law, Labor and Employment Law, Real Estate Law, Litigation, Restructuring and Insolvency Law, Tax Law, Banking and Finance Law and Information Technology Law.

Those seeking legal guidance through the Best Lawyers website searched most frequently for lawyers practicing Intellectual Property Law, Labor and Employment Law, Restructuring and Insolvency Law, Corporate Law, Arbitration and Mediation, Information Technology Law, Mergers and Acquisitions Law, Tax Law, Litigation and Construction Law.

“Lawyer of the Year” Awards

The Best Lawyers “Lawyer of the Year” awards, which distinguish only one lawyer per practice area in each metropolitan area, are also highlighted in this year’s awards for Germany. For 2024, we awarded 210 lawyers as “Lawyer of the Year” in Germany.

Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in Germany

A few years ago, recognizing a need to expand our awards to include lawyers earlier in their practices, we launched the Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch awards. These awards use the same peer review methodology used for all Best Lawyers awards and honor lawyers who have been in practice for three to eight years. The Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in Germany awards highlight up and coming legal talent across the country. For 2024, we are excited to announce the 3rd edition of Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in Germany, recognizing 1,023 lawyers across 32 practice areas. These lawyers practice at 214 different law firms across Germany.

Within the 32 recognized Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in Germany practice areas, the ten with the most recognized lawyers are Corporate Law, Mergers and Acquisitions Law, Litigation, Labor and Employment Law, Real Estate Law, Arbitration and Mediation, Intellectual Property Law, Banking and Finance Law, Private Equity Law and Competition / Antitrust Law.

“Law Firm of the Year”

Every year in Germany, we also award the “Law Firm of the Year” honorees, given to a single firm in a single practice area for its esteemed work. These awards are determined by several data points, including individual lawyer feedback, the number of lawyers included in Best Lawyers for that firm and practice area, the number of office locations a firm has, historical analysis of the firm’s “Lawyer of the Year” awards, materials submitted by firms and the firm’s overall scope and areas of expertise. This year we proudly award 21 law firms in Germany with 26 “Law Firm of the Year” awards.
