The Best Lawyers in France Awards

Best Lawyers is excited to present the 14th edition of The Best Lawyers in France awards and third edition of Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in France for 2024. These awards include individual lawyer awards for The Best Lawyers in France, Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in France, “Lawyer of the Year” awards and the esteemed firm-wide “Law Firm of the Year” awards.

Since 1983, Best Lawyers has set the standard for legal talent honorifics, establishing awards through our Purely Peer Review process. Through a procedure that includes nominations, voter outreach and peer feedback, Best Lawyers brings representation to France and around the world to the top legal talent. Our trusted methodology allows us to annually produce awards that denote our core belief: The Best Lawyers know who the Best Lawyers are.

The Best Lawyers in France 2024 honors 3,227 lawyers in 78 practice areas. Paris has the most awardees, though awards span 16 total metropolitan areas.

Across the 78 recognized practice areas, the ten with the most Best Lawyers honorees in France are Mergers and Acquisitions Law, Corporate Law, Tax Law, Litigation, Labor and Employment Law, Banking and Finance Law, Private Equity Law, Intellectual Property Law, Real Estate Law and Arbitration and Mediation.

Website users searched the Best Lawyers website most frequently for lawyers practicing Tax Law, Labor and Employment Law, Litigation, Corporate Law, Mergers and Acquisitions Law, Insolvency and Reorganization Law, Intellectual Property Law, Real Estate Law, Competition / Antitrust Law and Banking and Finance Law.

“Lawyer of the Year” Awards

The Best Lawyers “Lawyer of the Year” awards distinguish only one lawyer per practice area in each metropolitan area, denoting lawyers with the highest voter feedback. For 2024, we awarded 85 lawyers as “Lawyer of the Year” in France.

Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in France

Best Lawyers, recognizing a need to expand our awards to include lawyers earlier in their practice, launched the Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch awards a few years ago. Using the trusted peer review methodology that is used for the traditional Best Lawyers awards, Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch honors lawyers who have been in practice for three to eight years. The Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in France awards highlight up and coming legal talent across the country. For 2024, Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in France recognizes 654 lawyers across 28 practice areas. These lawyers practice at 158 law firms and eight metropolitan areas across France.

“Law Firm of the Year”

Each year, we also award the “Law Firm of the Year” honorees in France. These accolades are given to a single firm in a single practice area for its esteemed work. These awards are determined by several data points, including individual lawyer feedback, the number of lawyers included in Best Lawyers for that firm and practice area, the number of office locations a firm has, historical analysis of the firm’s “Lawyer of the Year” awards, materials submitted by firms and the firm’s overall scope and areas of expertise. This year we proudly award 21 law firms in France with 25 “Law Firm of the Year” awards.
