Ms. Trexler is a shareholder and senior trial lawyer at Neil Dymott. She has tried over 45 cases to jury, primarily representing physicians, nurses, hospitals, clinics and professional groups engaged in all aspects of healthcare services. Ms. Trexler also advises healthcare practitioners and facilities in preventing and responding to crisis situations and media inquiries.
Ms. Trexler has been widely recognized for her expertise and professionalism by her peers and opponents alike. The Los Angeles Daily Journal has named her one of the “Top 50 Women Litigators in California.” In 2009, her colleagues recognized her as the San Diego Defense Lawyer of the Year. In 2009, Ms. Trexler was invited to become a Fellow in the Litigation Counsel of America. Fellowship in LCA is very selective; less than one-half of one percent of the lawyers in America are Fellows.
From 2007 to 2010, Law & Politics Magazine recognized Ms. Trexler as one of San Diego’s “Top 25 Women Super Lawyers” for Southern California. Since 2008, she has been listed in Best Lawyer of America for Elder Law and Medical and Professional Malpractice Law. In 2011, she was named “San Diego’s Professional Malpractice Defense Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers of America.
Before she was a trial attorney, Sheila Trexler was a nurse. Unlike many lawyers who “fall into” a practice area, Ms. Trexler chose to pursue a second career representing the interests of healthcare providers and entities. She frequently lectures on medical and legal topics to nurses, physicians and attorneys. For 14 years, she was an adjunct professor at California Western School of Law where she taught a course on medical malpractice litigation.
