Karyn graduated from the University of Melbourne in Arts and Law and holds a Master of Laws (cum laude) in Public International Law from the University of Leiden, The Netherlands. She was admitted to legal practice in 1993 and has practiced solely in the areas of immigration and refugee law for twenty years. She established her own legal practice with Michael Clothier over a decade ago.
Karyn has extensive experience in all areas of immigration and refugee law including preparing primary visa applications and submissions to the Department, representing applicants in merits review applications in the AAT as well as judicial review in the Federal Circuit Court of Australia, Federal Court of Australia and High Court of Australia.
Karyn became an accredited immigration law specialist in 2000 and has served on the Law Institute’s Immigration Law Specialisation Committee, which sets the examinations for lawyers wanting to be accredited as specialists, for many years.
Karyn is a regular presenter of seminars to fellow lawyers and migration agents and has written numerous articles in the areas of immigration and refugee law. Her legal opinions have been sought in various Court cases such as family law and criminal matters.
