Charles H. Johnson is a shareholder in the Miami, Florida law firm of Richman Greer, P.A., practicing primarily in the areas of estate planning, probate, guardianship, probate/trust/
guardianship litigation and real estate. He has been designated a Board Certified Estate Planning and Probate Lawyer by the Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization and Education since 1987. He received his B.S.B.A. (Accounting) degree in 1971 and his J.D. in 1974 from the University of Florida. He is a member and past director of the Estate Planning Council of Greater Miami, and a member and past Vice Co-Chair of the Probate and Guardianship Committee of the of the Dade County Bar Association. He is a member of the American Bar Association (Past Chair, Committee on Administration and Distribution of Decedents Estates of The Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law Section) as well as the Probate Rules Committee of The Florida Bar.
Charles is a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Coral Gables. He has served as Senior Warden, as a Vestry member for 5 years, as Chancellor of the Church for 5 years, is a member of the Choir (for 14 years), and has been a St. Thomas delegate to the Deanery and Convention for many years. He received the Bishop’s Award for St. Thomas in 2006 and the Rector’s Award in 2009. He has for 8 years and currently serves as Chair of the Steering Committee of St. Thomas, which is a joint Church/School Committee which recommends to the Vestry and School Board usage of capital campaign funds as received. In his prior parish, St. Philip’s in Coral Gables, he served as Senior Warden, Chancellor for 14 years, member of the Vestry (3 terms) and Co-Chair of the Lift High the Cross fundraising committee that raised funds to renovate the Church resulting most visibly in raising the roof of the Church.
Charles was appointed by Bishop Leo Frade as Chancellor (Chief Legal Officer) of the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida in June, 2012, and his appointment was confirmed at the Annual Convention in November, 2012.
Charles retired in 1999 as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S.A.R., Judge Advocate General’s Corps, after serving in the Reserves for 28 years. He continues to be active with Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, having served as Chairman of the Visiting Ships Committee and the Military Affairs Committee of the Chamber and currently as Vice Chair of the Military Affairs Committee.
Charles is a member of the Orange Bowl Committee and currently serves on the Finance Committee and Chair of the Home Team (ACC) Host Committee for the 2014 Orange Bowl Festival. He has served as a member of the Recreational Advisory Board, the Code Enforcement Board and the Cable TV Board, all of the City of Coral Gables.
Charles has been married to former Linda Carole Tonks for 41 years. They have two children, Melissa Johnson Tolmach and Jeremy Charles Johnson, and two grandsons, Miles Hudson Tolmach and Anderson Charles Tolmach. Linda is the Development Director of the Parish School of St. Thomas Episcopal Parish in Coral Gables.
