Sally Purnell represents hospitals, physicians, and other healthcare providers in a wide range of matters. With over 20 years of experience defending and litigating medical malpractice claims in state and federal courts, Purnell has tried to verdict cases involving the most severe of damages, including birth injuries, profound neurological impairment, and death.
Serving as lead defense counsel for the Greenville Hospital System, Purnell has gained unique insight into hospital rules, regulations, and operations. Her experience allows her to effectively represent the Firm’s healthcare clients in medical staff fair hearings, contested Certificate of Need cases, and in guardianship proceedings instituted for the purpose of hospital discharge planning. Additionally, Purnell frequently advises hospitals and physicians on matters such as risk management, EMTALA, informed consent, patient confidentiality, and peer review.
- Defended a physician in a case alleging a failure to diagnose cancer.
- Defended an action against a physician by the Board of Medical Examiners after an evidentiary hearing.
Purnell also donates her time to improving the health of the Greenville community by serving on the Board of Directors for the Piedmont Health Foundation.
