Peter Cullen is a partner in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution, Insurance & Reinsurance, Energy and Arbitration Groups. Peter's practice covers the corporate, alternative dispute resolution and litigation aspects of commercial insurance (including D&O, energy - construction risks, delay, exploration/development, faulty design - liability, marine, property, regulatory and policy interpretation/coverage disputes), trade and transportation matters. He acts for leading shipping interests in Canada (in commercial transactions – including construction, purchase and sale, contracts of carriage - and dispute resolution matters), as well as protection and indemnity associations and domestic and foreign insurers, including members of Lloyd’s and other London Market insurers.
He appears before the Federal Court across Canada and additional Courts in Quebec and Ontario, as well as arbitration/administrative panels. He occasionally acts as an arbitrator in commercial and shipping disputes.
Peter is a member of the Barreau du Québec, the Law Society of Ontario, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He is also a member of the International Bar Association (in the insurance, arbitration and transportation (North American Regional Officer practice areas) and the London Court of International Arbitration. He is listed on the International Arbitration Panel of the Canadian Council for International Business, the Canadian affiliate of the International Chamber of Commerce, Paris and is a member of the User’s Council of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre. He is an Honorary Life Member of the Canadian Maritime Law Association (President 2003-2005) and a Titulary Member of the Comité Maritime International (member of the International Working Group on Polar Shipping). He is a Trustee with the Canadian Irish Studies Foundation, in connection with its funding of programs at Concordia University and a former member of Council of the Canadian Bar Association (Chair of the National Sections Council), former Gouverneur de la Fondation du Barreau du Québec and was a long standing Director of Le Bon Dieu Dans La Rue (Chair 2006-2015). He currently chairs the firm’s Risk Management Committee and is a member of its Professional & Ethics Committee.
