Mr. Gilkey has more than 35 years of experience in the bankruptcy/insolvency field, representing lenders, Chapter 11 and 7 debtors, Official Committees of Unsecured Creditors, commercial landlords, other secured creditors, major unsecured creditors, bonding companies, trustees, receivers, asset purchasers and entities going through out-of-court restructurings or liquidations. He frequently serves as mediator of various bankruptcy disputes and non-bankruptcy commercial disputes.

Background

Mr. Gilkey graduated from the College of Wooster in 1973. Upon graduation he served in the United States Army, earning a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Colorado. He earned his law degree from Duquesne University in 1981, and was a member of Law Review.

Memberships and Affiliations

Mr. Gilkey has served as an adjunct professor of bankruptcy law at Duquesne University School of Law. He is a past chairperson of the Bankruptcy and Commercial Law Section and a current member of the Audit Committee of the Allegheny County Bar Association. Mr. Gilkey is a regular panelist at the annual bankruptcy symposium and numerous other seminars. He is designated as a Business Bankruptcy Specialist by the American Board of Certification, is on the panel of mediators of both the United States District and Bankruptcy Courts for the Western District of Pennsylvania, and is active in the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association, for which he has served as a board member. Mr. Gilkey is a current member of the Board of Directors of Neighborhood Legal Services Association in Pittsburgh. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America® in the Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law Section (formerly titled the Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights Section) since 2001 and in the Litigation – Bankruptcy Section since 2012. He was also named the Best Lawyers’ 2014 Pittsburgh Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law Lawyer of the Year and the 2013 Pittsburgh Litigation – Bankruptcy Lawyer of the Year.
