Margaret Grottenthaler is the partner in charge of legal research and writing in the Toronto office of Stikeman Elliott. Her practice is focused on writing reasoned opinions on a wide variety of issues for clients of the firm. A significant part of her practice deals with the structuring, enforcement, and collateralization of derivatives products; margin loans; securities lending; repurchase and reverse repurchase transactions, prime broker, bankruptcy and insolvency issues and collateralization of commercial transactions. She writes the legal opinions on netting and collateral enforcement for ISDA, the FIA, ICMA, SIFMA and other industry associations on standard form documentation used in the structured finance market.
Ms. Grottenthaler is Canadian counsel to ISDA, a member of ISDA's Canadian Steering Committee and a former member of the Federal Judicial Advisory Committee. She is the Co-Author of the Law of Financial Derivatives in Canada.
