Laurent Fortier is a partner in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group and a member of the Insurance, Construction, International Arbitration, as well as Maritime, Aviation and Transportation Groups. His practice focuses on aspects of commercial insurance (including construction, energy, property, liability, marine, D&O and general coverage disputes) and maritime, aviation and transportation matters in particular. Laurent is involved in the prevention of litigation but also represents clients before arbitral tribunals, all Quebec and Canadian Courts and certain administrative courts. He acts for domestic and foreign insurance companies, including underwriters at Lloyd’s. He is a founding member of the firm's Property and Energy Insurance Practice Group and of the Montréal office’s Construction Group.
Laurent has acted as counsel in many litigation, arbitration and dispute resolution matters relating to complex energy insurance and course of construction claims. These have included faulty design, product liability, construction cost overrun and delay claims, as well as disputes over policy interpretation and coverage.
Laurent is an active member of the Hautes Études Commerciales Alumni Association, Montréal and Quebec Bars, Canadian Bar Association, Canadian Maritime Law Association, Canadian Board of Marine Underwriters, and L’Institut d’assurance de dommages du Québec. He is also Chair of the Montréal office’s Finance Committee and Premises Committee.
