As a senior litigator in Hicks Morley’s Toronto office, John Field deals with litigation of all aspects of the employment relationship. In his practice, he has acted as counsel at all levels of court, including the Court of Appeal for Ontario and the Supreme Court of Canada. Over his career, John has developed significant expertise in class action defence and wrongful dismissal litigation. He also has experience in injunction proceedings, Anton Pillerorders and intellectual property matters.
In class action litigation, John has acted as lead defence counsel in numerous high profile cases, defending employers in proceedings involving wrongful dismissal claims, constructive dismissal claims, overtime claims, pension benefits and pension surplus claims, retiree benefit claims, employee retention bonus claims, employee health claims and student claims.
John is a regular speaker on various employment issues and has presented papers at numerous employer conferences.
John played professional hockey for Vasteras in Sweden in 1980 – 1981 and continues to play hockey in Toronto with his son who is also a lawyer.
