Jean-Sébastien Clément is a partner in the firm's Montréal office. His practice has been focusing on aboriginal law for more than fifteen years with a particular interest for matters pertaining to self-governance, natural resources, forestry, education, socio-economic development, administration of justice, environment, land regime and health and social services.

During his career, he has acted and played a major role in many litigation cases including constitutional cases before all common law tribunals, in first instance and in appeal, all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada.

He has also been involved in negotiating and implementing various agreements including the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement, the Paix des Braves Agreement, the Cree-Canada New Relationship Agreement and the Cree-Quebec Governance Agreement.

Jean-Sébastien works with various Cree entities on a variety of matters. His practice allows him to address private law issues for commercial entities, as well as public law issues for various Native entities such as a Native government, a Native school board, a Native police force, a Native health and social services board and various Native bands.

Prior to his involvement in Aboriginal matters, Jean-Sébastien Clément was a prison law practitioner. He is now involved with Lawyers Without Borders Canada.

An accomplished musician, he plays double bass with various jazz, blues and European music ensembles in the Montréal area and participates in several recordings.
