Jamie Knight is a partner in the Hamilton and Toronto offices of Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti LLP. Jamie has over 30 years of experience representing management in labour and employment law, including numerous appearances before the courts, arbitration boards, labour relations tribunals, as well as participating in adjudications in human rights, employment standards and health and safety matters. Jamie also has extensive experience in collective bargaining and assisting employers in interacting with trade unions, including defending against union organizing campaigns. Jamie’s clients are in various sectors, including manufacturing, entertainment, services, municipalities, health and finance.

Jamie has authored or co-authored some 15 publications for human resources professionals and lawyers, most of them in multiple editions. From 2005 to 2010, Jamie authored the quarterly Knight’s Roundtable for Canada Labour Views (CLV). He is a frequent speaker and media commentator on labour and employment issues, including current employment law issues such as workplace violence, attendance management and planning for pandemic flu. In addition to specific client training sessions, Jamie taught management and human resources employees in employment law programs at the University of Guelph for 20 years, with a focus on workplace safety and effective human resources management.

Jamie is President of the Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers, originating Chair of the Human Rights Committee (2010-15), Co-Chair of the 2011 CACE Conference and a Director of CACE. Jamie is an active participant in HRPAO and has spent the past several years serving on the Complaints, Investigation and Discipline Committee. Jamie went to College Militaire Royal de Saint-Jean, Quebec before receiving his LL.B. (1983) from the University of Toronto; he was called to the Ontario Bar in 1985.

Among his publications, Jamie is the author of Guides to Effective Human Resources Management in both Union and Non-Union Workplaces, and co-author of the Employment Litigation Manual, Halsbury's Labour Laws of Canada (pending publication in 2011), HR Managers Guide to Health and Safety, Public Health in Workplaces, and the annual Quick Refrence Guides to the Ontario Labour Relations Act, Canada Labour Code, Ontario Human Rights Code, Canadian Human Rights Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, CPP/QPP and Employment Insurance, and PIPEDA.

Jamie has travelled widely, including to Sierra Leone, Africa, where Jamie and his wife are involved with a Canadian charity working in local partnerships to improve education, child care, and micro-finance opportunities for women and disabled persons.
