Hans has been practicing law as an insurance defense attorney for over fifteen years. His litigation practice includes both Idaho and Oregon. Because of Hans' ties to Eastern Oregon, and the proximity of Boise to the Oregon border, a significant portion of his practice involves work throughout Oregon, including Multnomah, Clackamas, Malheur, Baker and other counties. The focus of Hans' practice is insurance defense, including transportation, agriculture, employment practices, professional liability, product liability, personal injury and coverage disputes and opinions. Hans has substantial experience at both the trial and appellate level in medical liability litigation. He is also fluent in Spanish.
Hans grew up in Nyssa, Oregon, which is located along the Snake River on the Idaho-Oregon border. He graduated from the University of Oregon in 1991, where he majored in Spanish and minored in Political Science. Hans received his Juris Doctorate Degree from the Willamette University College of Law where he was a member of the Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity. He has continued to maintain his ties to the school as a member of its Board of Visitors. Before joining Carey Perkins LLP, Hans practiced law with a private law firm in Ontario, Oregon. Hans joined Carey Perkins LLP in 2000.
Hans is a member of the Idaho and Oregon State Bars as well as the United States District Courts in those jurisdictions. He is a Claims & Litigation Management Alliance member and a contributing author of its “Workers’ Compensation Guide – Idaho.” He is a member of the Defense Research Institute and is the firm's liaison for the Idaho Volunteer Lawyer Program.
