Since 1993, The Best Lawyers in America has recognized Mr. Karlin for his work in the field of employment law. In 2004, his colleagues recognized his work, naming Mr. Karlin a Fellow of the West Virginia State Bar Foundation. In 2005, he received the Sid Bell Memorial Award from the American Civil Liberties Union of West Virginia for his commitment to civil liberties and, in 2006, he was named the Member of the Year by the West Virginia Association for Justice. In 2006, Mr. Karlin was honored by induction in the American College of Trial Lawyers and, in 2007, he was selected as a member of The College of Labor & Employment Lawyers. Since 2007, Mr. Karlin has been listed as a Super Lawyer every year by Super Lawyer magazine. In March of 2012, the West Virginia Human Rights Commission honored Mr. Karlin at the ninth annual West Virginia Civil Rights Day celebration.
Mr. Karlin was a member of the West Virginia Lawyer Disciplinary Board for six years and served as Chairperson of the Board from 2000-2003. He has continued his involvement in issues of ethics and professionalism representing and advising attorneys and serving as a member of the Ethics & Sanctions Committee of the National Employment Lawyers Association. Mr. Karlin has also served as an Adjunct Lecturer at the West Virginia University College of Law where he developed and taught Pre-Trial Litigation for several years, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the West Virginia Fund for Law in the Public Interest.
