Firm Details

With many years of experience in personal injury litigation, we have been able to build a solid base of experience, resources and success in a complex field of law. During the 1940s, Leon RisCassi established a busy law practice in Hartford, combined with his active involvement in Connecticut politics where he was Senate minority and majority leader. Mr. RisCassi was joined in 1955 by William R. Davis, and the two quickly built a strong practice, handling personal injury claims. Fifty-eight years later, Bill Davis remains active in our practice and in the legal community.

Attorneys Jim Bartolini, Andy Groher, and Michael Jainchill all joined the practice in the 1970s, followed shortly thereafter by John Houlihan, Kathy Calibey and Dave Cooney. Today, we have twelve attorneys and an extensive support staff, filling our office at 131 Oak Street, which was built specially for our firm, when the State of Connecticut built a courthouse on the site of our first office.

Throughout its history, RisCassi and Davis, P.C. has been committed to helping victims of accidents, injuries and medical malpractice. By following the link to our practice areas, you will find a guide to the types of cases we most commonly handle.

RisCassi and Davis, P.C., founded in 1955, is a Connecticut law firm helping accident victims injured by the carelessness of others for more than 50 years. We have grown to a firm of twelve experienced lawyers, with an average of more than 20 years of experience.

We are proud that four of our attorneys are listed in the publication, Best Lawyers in America®, 2005-2006, © 2004, by Woodward/White, Aiken, SC in the field of Personal Injury Litigation. Six of our attorneys have been certified as Civil Trial Advocates by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.

The resources of RisCassi and Davis, P.C., are directed at serving the individual client and achieving a just resolution under the law. Our attorneys may collaborate on complex cases. We also meet weekly to discuss strategies in our cases and to evaluate new cases and potential expert witnesses. Depending upon the nature of the case, we may review technical literature, confer with attorneys throughout the United States handling similar claims, or consult experts in particular industries or fields of medicine. We have developed a national network of consulting experts in medical fields including obstetrics, emergency medicine, surgery, urology, oncology, radiology, neurosurgery, opthamology, orthopedics, internal medicine, cardiology and family medicine. We have relationships with experts in non-medical fields including product design, fall protection, and mechanical, civil and electrical engineering.

In the courtroom, the attorneys of RisCassi & Davis, P.C., strive to educate juries about the evidence, with the models, enlargements and expert testimony often necessary to understand a complex, technical case. When necessary, we advocate changes in the law to judges of the trial or appellate bench.

During legislative sessions, some of our attorneys, usually in association with the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association, strive to educate Connecticut legislators about needed changes in Connecticut law. In this way, we work to protect, preserve and, hopefully, enhance the legal rights of victims. We have resisted changes in the law designed to limit the right of an injured person to a fair recovery.

At seminars, we strive to educate other attorneys in this field while simultaneously learning from their experiences. In addition to attending professional seminars, many of us have served as program leaders or lecturers at conferences dealing with matters of interest to trial attorneys. Dave Cooney serves on the Continuing Legal Education committee of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association. Many of our attorneys have published articles in the Connecticut Bar Journal regarding issues of tort law in Connecticut. Jim Bartolini has served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Connecticut Bar Journal. Michael Jainchill has co-authored a respected treatise on Connecticut Uninsured Motorist Law, now in its second edition.

At the University of Connecticut School of Law, RisCassi and Davis, P.C. have sponsored mock trial competitions and donated funds for the William R. Davis moot courtroom. Bill Davis, Jim Bartolini, John Houlihan, Andy Groher and Kathy Calibey have all taught Trial Practice or other courses at the law school. Other attorneys have served as guest lecturers or judges at trial and appellate advocacy competitions at the law school. In our office, we try to educate ourselves and each other on the pertinent law and facts. We often field questions from other lawyers. We welcome questions from our clients and from potential clients.
