Led by legendary plaintiffs’ lawyers Phil Russotti, Cliff Shapiro, and Ken Halperin, the firm has been at the forefront of New York’s legal landscape in practically all areas of personal injury, including medical malpractice, construction accidents, automobile accidents, products liability, general negligence, and wrongful death, among others. The firm’s varied cases have resulted in multimillion-dollar awards, and several verdicts have established new law and legal precedents.
“These are not your run-of-the-mill injury cases, and that makes for very challenging and important work,” says Russotti, who also sits on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association. “Our advocacy and skill in a case ultimately determines the future for people whose lives are forever changed—we are honored to accept this very serious challenge to help people put their lives back together.” Russotti has successfully tried virtually every type of civil case in his 40-years-plus career in nearly every state and federal court in the New York metropolitan area. Armed with those experiences, he oversees the work of each Wingate Russotti trial attorney and participates in each trial’s preparation in order to best ensure a positive outcome.
The results are in the numbers, he says, both in terms of awards and frequency. For example, in 2016 the New York Law Journal released its Verdicts & Settlements Hall of Fame list for Premises Liability, which encompasses the reported awards of the last five years, and Wingate Russotti is listed six times. What’s even more impressive, though, is that five of those listings are for verdicts. The firm was also named in the New York Law Journal’s Medical Malpractice Hall of Fame in 2014, having three eight-figure verdicts and settlements.
“When we prepare for trial, we leave no stone unturned, and those verdicts are the proof,” Russotti says. “The awards for verdicts are typically far more substantial than settlements would be. That’s always our goal—to achieve the highest recovery for our clients and their families, to ensure they are adequately prepared for services and treatment, and to help them resume their lives with dignity.”
