Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C. (GLK), has reason to celebrate in 2016, as it can claim an achievement unlike any other. Our personal injury and medical malpractice firm is the only one to be home to both the active president of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and the Best Lawyers “Lawyer Of The Year” for plaintiffs’ personal injury litigation in New York City. Named partners Edward H. Gersowitz and Jeff S. Korek are honored to hold those respective titles while continuing to represent those who have been injured or killed by another’s fault or wrongdoing.

“This is certainly a standout year for our firm,” said Gersowitz, “and it’s a reminder that the work we’re doing impacts our clients and the legal community.”

The firm has established a tradition of excellence in New York and New Jersey since its inception more than 30 years ago, and shows no signs of slowing down. In addition to its accolades, GLK achieved major verdicts and settlements and accepted new high-profile cases this year, further enhancing its presence in New York’s legal landscape.

Recognized in 2017 with a Tier 1 ranking in New York City plaintiffs’ personal injury litigation by U.S. News – Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms,” GLK has broadened its reach with an additional focus on construction accidents. To date, GLK has won more than $840 million in jury verdicts and settlements, and is committed to representing clients until a favorable outcome is achieved.

Gersowitz oversees GLK’s daily operations, and his leadership expands even further into the legal community. In addition to his installation as NYSTLA’s 49th president, he continues to serve as a New York State governor for the American Association for Justice, a national trial lawyers’ organization, and is a proud member of its Leaders Forum.

Korek is a past president of both NYSTLA and the New York City Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, and his courtroom reputation is nationally recognized. In September 2016, he was named lead trial counsel in a major wrongful death suit representing the family of a crew member who died in a plane crash that occurred while filming an upcoming Tom Cruise movie American Made.

“Safety improvements must be implemented by the movie industry so that other families don’t suffer tragic losses due to the industry’s improper planning and safety management,” Korek said. A trailblazer in medical malpractice and wrongful death matters, partner Michael A. Fruhling handles the firm’s pretrial medical malpractice work. Currently recognized by Best Lawyers for medical malpractice, he is a member of NYSTLA and sits on the Board of Governors for the New Jersey Association for Justice.

GLK is also known for its community work on the basketball court. For 11 years, GLK has partnered with The Gardiner Foundation, co-hosting the Annual Gardiner Memorial Basketball Classic Tournament and The Gardiner Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway, held respectively in August and November at the St. James Park in the Bronx.

This strong community presence, coupled with an ability to be selective with their caseload, enables GLK to provide the personal touch clients deserve, which Korek said runs like a current throughout its offices. Staff members – many of whom are bilingual – help bridge language barriers and set the firm’s comforting and professional tone.
