Marielle F. Hazen eases her clients’ lives in the worst of times. When a client is facing a terminal illness, challenges as a parent of a child with disabilities, the heartbreaking choice of whether or not to place a family member in a nursing home, or the death of a loved one, Hazen is there to help her clients craft solutions for their particular needs.
In striving to provide her clients with the highest quality legal services, Hazen states, "I want my clients to have the peace of mind of knowing we have protected them by putting the best possible planning in place."
Working at an Easterseals summer camp for children and adults with disabilities during college showed Hazen firsthand the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and their families as they navigated the complicated maze of public benefits and financial security. It highlighted for her the important role of an effective, knowledgeable advocate. In addition, as she watched her grandparents’ struggles with growing older, Hazen felt inspired to pursue estate planning and elder law. "During my college and law school years, I watched my grandparents deal with the challenges of aging. They were my primary inspiration to focus my law practice in the areas of estate planning and elder law."
"I am continually amazed and inspired by the strength and courage of my clients and their families [when] faced with these challenges."
At the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, she participated in the first elder law clinic in the country, which solidified her interest. Hazen pursued that interest with compassion and care, helping her clients clarify their needs with her detail-oriented focus and passion for issues related to elder law and special needs planning.
Ms. Hazen’s tireless work does not stop there. She maintains leadership roles in the Pennsylvania Association of Elder Law Attorneys and the Elder Law Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, where she advocates for issues relevant to her clients’ needs. Additionally, she is a member of the Dauphin County Elder Abuse Task Force. Hazen’s proximity to Harrisburg further provides her with access to legislature and state offices, allowing her to be that much more actively engaged in public policy advocacy.
Full of gratitude, Hazen does not forget her compassionate and experienced team of attorneys, paralegals, and administrators who work alongside her to ensure that the needs of Hazen Law Group’s clients are met with superior attention. Together, they are able to assist their clients with navigating the curveballs life has thrown their way.
"I am continually amazed and inspired by the strength and courage of my clients and their families [when] faced with these challenges," she remarked.
Hazen is the founder of Hazen Law Group. In addition to being recognized by Best Lawyers®, she is a Certified Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation and was the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement award from the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys in 2009, the Excellence in Elder Law Award from the Elder Law Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association in 2010, and the NAELA Powley Elder Law Award in 2014.
