Mr. Holburn is a Partner at Alexander Holburn and heads the Insurance Law and Commercial Litigation Practices. He obtained his law degree from the University of Manitoba in 1967 and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1990. Mr. Holburn’s practice is primarily focused on insurance and reinsurance law, as well as commercial and class action litigation.
Mr. Holburn acts as counsel to major insurance companies operating in North America and Europe. He has, on behalf of Canadian underwriters, been supervisory counsel on litigation conducted in several states of the United States of America and in the United Kingdom. Mr. Holburn has represented underwriters in the Courts of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, and in the Supreme Court of Canada. He has handled many high profile insurance cases including Campbell v. Flexwatt, the first class action suit to proceed in British Columbia, coverage arbitration arising from the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, and most recently, a billion dollar claim in Western Canada’s energy sector. Mr. Holburn has written and lectured extensively on various topics and has on several occasions served as chairperson of conferences on insurance law. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Law Society of British Columbia.
