Listed in Best Lawyers since 2016

Named by Super Lawyers magazine as one of Alabama’s Rising Stars and recognized in 2014 as one of the top “Forty Under 40” trial lawyers in Alabama, Billy is a “think-outside-the-box” attorney whose creative approach and hard work have resulted in beat-the-odds wins for his clients.  A powerful combination of drive, resourcefulness, and intelligence is the hallmark of Billy’s work.  He is one of the few attorneys at the firm that devotes equal time to both personal injury and business cases, and this diversity in his practice forms the foundation of his unique and focused approach to his clients' problems.

Billy enjoys handling complex cases that require a full and detailed understanding of how products, businesses, and markets work.  In recent years, he has handled cases involving industrial explosions, commercial trucking accidents, aviation accidents, interest-rate swaps, and employment fraud.  Since 2013, he has recovered nearly $30 million for his clients, and his cases have been reported by Bloomberg News, Business Alabama, the Press-Register, and The Birmingham News.

Some of Billy’s recent successes include: obtaining a nearly $10 million award for a local sewer company that was defrauded by a regional bank; recovering over $3 million for the family of a man who was killed in an industrial explosion; securing a $1.75 million jury verdict for a yacht owner against an insurance company that refused to compensate him for the total loss of his yacht; and obtaining a $1 million policy limits settlement for a young man who was injured in a crash involving a commercial truck.  In addition to these successes, Billy has secured numerous confidential settlements for his clients that have exceeded $1 million.

Oil Spill by the Oil Rig "Deepwater Horizon" in the Gulf of Mexico | U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana | MDL 2179

On April 20, 2010, the Deepwater Horizon exploded in the Gulf of Mexico causing the deaths of 11 workers on the rig. It also caused oil to begin pouring into the Gulf of Mexico which continued for months before the well could be successfully capped.

The oil spill, and the inability of those who are at fault to stop the spill from continuing, damaged the fishery eco-system and caused numerous rental cancellations of condos, charter boats, and the like; and, substantial financial losses to innocent fishermen, oyster harvesters, business owners, boat owners and crews, managers and others. BP and other responsible parties should ultimately be held legally responsible for such losses.

Cunningham Bounds, LLC has filed many lawsuits in Alabama and Florida on behalf of different groups that have been damaged as a result of the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon and the oil spill.

Litigation in this case is ongoing.  To date, the firm represents thousands of clients in this case.
