Case History

3M Company v. Christian Investments dba Protected Domain Services LLC, et al.

Represented the plaintiff in the United Stated District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. The lawsuit named 25 defendants and involved over 50 domain names used for interactive gambling websites that displayed the plaintiff’s marks. Among the defendants were domain name registrants, privacy service companies, and website hosting service companies. Many of the defendants were located in foreign countries, so there were numerous issues and complexities pertaining to personal jurisdiction and service. Secured a consent judgments against seven defendants, received default judgments against nine defendants (plus two domain names sought in rem), and settled with the rest. The Court awarded significant statutory damages, plus attorneys fees.
