Steven F. Griffith Jr., a shareholder in the New Orleans office with a national practice, assists clients in various industries, including construction, marine and hospitality. He has consulted clients on matters arising in twenty-nine states, ranging from the defense of nationwide class and collective actions to smaller business disputes. In representing his clients, Steve tries to find the best (and sometimes creative) solution to the difficult business problem that litigation (or the threat of it) can present.

Steve's practice includes a focus on unique wage and hour issues, and he defends nationwide collective actions brought under the Fair Labor Standards Act, as well as related class actions across the country. His experience also includes extensive litigation experience on civil rights claims, Title VII, the ADA, FMLA and ADEA. He has represented clients before the Louisiana Department of Insurance, Louisiana Department of Justice, United States Department of Labor and the EEOC.

Finally, his practice includes defending and counseling clients with respect to Chinese Drywall and other toxic gypsum claims, as well as defending and pursuing complex breach of contract, trade secret and unfair trade practice claims.

Prior to practicing, he served as judicial clerk for Chief Justice Pascal F. Calogero Jr., in the Louisiana Supreme Court from 2000 to 2001.

Representative Matters
  • Defense of international company in several matters alleging nationwide FLSA and state law class action claims. Matters resolved with client incurring no out-of-pocket settlement contribution or attorneys' fees.
  • Defense of several nationwide, statewide and local FLSA collective actions alleging misclassification or inadequate pay of employees. Some cases have been dismissed, some were resolved and some are ongoing. A full list is here.
  • Defense of client in RICO and related business torts seeking in excess of $200 million in damages. Client dismissed with payment of no money.
  • Defense of client in bad faith breach of contract claim seeking in excess of $4 million in damages and penalties. Defense verdict after trial, including a judgment against the plaintiff.
  • Regular advice to clients implementing nationwide policies compliant with federal and state law.
