Before entering private practice in 2007, Ms. Hamilton was the Secretary to the Committee on Character and Fitness for the First Judicial Department, where she supervised applications and litigated hearings for lawyers seeking admission to the bar. Prior to that, for thirteen years Ms. Hamilton was employed at the Departmental Disciplinary Committee for the First Judicial Department. She served as Special Trial Counsel from 1989 to 2000 and First Deputy Chief Counsel from 2000 to 2003. In her years at the Committee she handled complex disciplinary matters including investigations, hearings and appellate review of attorney ethical misconduct pursuant to the Code of Professional Responsibility, the Judiciary Law and the New York Rules of Court. Ms. Hamilton supervised and trained staff attorneys and was actively involved in office management. From 1985 to 1989 Ms. Hamilton served as General Counsel to the Off Track Betting Corporation. She also served as an Assistant District Attorney in New York County from 1976 to 1985, where she was appointed the first Senior Trial Counsel in Charge of the Domestic Violence Unit.
As if June, 2013, Ms. Hamilton will be the Director of the Ethics Institute for the New York County Lawyers Association.
Ms. Hamilton received a Juris Doctor from St. John's University Law School and a BSFS from Georgetown University.
