Robert Williams has counseled and defended companies across the nation on employment matters for more than 18 years. He is a shareholder in Baker Donelson’s Memphis office, and has litigated matters in federal and state courts in more than 35 states. He has successfully tried more than 60 jury trials to conclusion and counsels clients in a wide variety of industries, including hospitality, restaurant, pharmaceutical, health care, retail, manufacturing, trucking and others.
Mr. Williams defends and advises clients on all manner of employment matters, including wage and hour, hiring and termination, reductions in force (WARN Act), harassment, personnel and supervisory policies, arbitration, mediation, employee privacy and more. He recently defended a client against the EEOC, and not only won a dismissal of the case, but the client was awarded substantial attorneys' fees against the government. He is a frequent lecturer on employment law, speaking at seminars, briefings and events sponsored by the Society for Human Resource Management, and other groups.
In addition to his labor and employment work, Mr. Williams has successfully handled defense of personal injury, products liability, Federal Employees Liability Act, medical malpractice and other general litigation cases. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Williams served as Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney and Chief of the Civil Division in the U.S. Attorney's Office, Western District of Tennessee.
