As a member of Stroud, Willink & Howard, LLC, Bob works with clients to prepare all types of estate plans from simple wills to complex trusts.  Bob helps his clients navigate the often complex laws regarding marital property, estate and income taxes, asset valuation, and property transfers.  Bob focuses on creating comprehensive estate plans that not only provide for the future transfer of clients' assets, but also help clients find long-term solutions to effectively arrange their financial affairs during their lifetimes to minimize tax consequences.  As part of his work, Bob often helps clients who own closely-held businesses plan for the future transfer of business ownership and management to the next generation of business leaders.  Bob also relies on his extensive tax knowledge to assist clients with the probate process and with trust administration matters.

Bob was born and raised in Wisconsin, leaving only to attend the University of Denver, where he received his undergraduate business degree magna cum laude.  Bob worked for a public accounting firm in Madison for several years before he attended law school at the University of Wisconsin, where he obtained his law degree.  Bob joined the firm after graduation and continues to use his business knowledge and taxation expertise to counsel and guide clients through the sometimes complex aspects of taxation that impact estate planning, probate, trust administration, and business succession planning.

Practice Experience
  • Handled the probate of an estate with combined assets in excess of $16 Million, including multiple closely-held family businesses; gathered and valued estate assets; worked with the surviving spouse to fund the credit shelter trust using marital exchanges most advantageous for ongoing family estate planning and minimizing federal estate and income taxes for the estate and the surviving family.
  • Prepared comprehensive estate plans for owners of closely-held business valued at over $11 million, and, after death of one owner, assisted surviving family with probate of estate estimated at more than $6 million; negotiated with appraisers to obtain most advantageous values for estate assets, including company stock and real estate; devised tax-efficient method to transfer estate assets to owner's heirs, while assisting them in setting up their own estate plans and arranging their financial affairs to secure ongoing tax benefits.
