Mr. Vance is a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American College of Bankruptcy Lawyers. He serves as the Vice President and a member of the board of directors of the American College of Bankruptcy Lawyers. He served as the President of the American College of Bankruptcy Foundation from 2012-2014. During 2012, he also served as the President of the New Orleans Bar Association. He is the President of the Board of Directors of the Southeast Louisiana Legal Services Corporation. He is an Executive Committee Member and the Vice President of the National Bankruptcy Conference and is a Fellow of the American Law Institute.
He is the Practice Group Leader of the Commercial Litigation Section of JONES, WALKER, WAECHTER, POITEVENT, CARRÈRE & DENÈGRE: (375 lawyers with offices in Alabama, Arizona, Louisiana, Florida, Mississippi, Texas, Georgia and Washington D.C.) and a former chairman of the firm. He received B.A. (1970) and J.D. (1975) degrees with highest College Honors from Louisiana State University where he served as a member of the Louisiana Law Review and received the Phi Beta Kappa Faculty Group Award.
He is the Past Chairman of: ABA’s Bankruptcy Litigation Subcommittee; Local Bankruptcy Rules Committee for the Eastern District of Louisiana; Louisiana Bankers Association, Bank Counsel Committee; Louisiana State Bar Association ‑ CLE Planning Committee; Consumer Law, Bankruptcy Law and Lender Liability Law Section of the Louisiana State Bar Association.
He has served on the faculty of over 200 Continuing Legal Education programs. He has written 70‑plus articles or seminar outlines on topics such as Commercial Litigation, Lender Liability and Bankruptcy. Mr. Vance has handled over 300 commercial disputes and has over 90 reported decisions.
